I am a retired HVAC technician and I am tired of how all of the local HVAC companies have treated the people in our town.

A couple of months ago, the last local HVAC company picked up and moved their offices out of the town. They are now located nearly twenty miles away. The last thing I needed to do was to purchase a couple service vans and equip them. We would be working out of our garage for a couple of months, but the locals would have a HVAC company to rely on.

When I suggested having a HVAC technician come to the house and talk about the newest HVAC systems we could get, she thought it was a waste of time.

Where I would come home every day and lower the temperature, now I don’t have to do it manually. The Smart Thermostat has it done before I get home. This is a really good way of saving energy and money on your energy bills. Now, the Smart Thermostat is also able to work by voice command. I would also say that the ductless mini split is also a favorite of mine. The idea of having a HVAC system that doesn’t require ductwork and is smaller than a radiator is amazing. It is powerful and it runs quietly. The ductless mini split is one of the most efficient HVAC systems on the market.

For the last month, I have been trying to hire a HVAC specialist to work on my air conditioning. I knew that summer was coming and I really wanted to get the air conditioning unit repaired before it got too hot. I looked online for HVAC specialist in our area and I spent a good bit of time on the phone, but none of them were free to come to my home. I found one company that only had a three week wait and I put myself on their list. I was still hoping that I would find someone who could get to my home sooner. I talked to some of my friends and one of my neighbors. The old man told me that I should just go walking the streets and whenever I came to a HVAC company, I should stop and ask for their help. He thought he was funny, but I wasn’t amused. Although he thought it was funny, the more I thought about it, the more it sounded like a good idea. I know that I need to do something because I don’t like the idea of being in my home without any air conditioning. I think when the other HvAC company comes to fix my air conditioner, I am going to have them bring a new Smart Thermostat for me. That will establish me as a customer and I know that from what I read, the Smart Thermostat will save me money overtime. It will also help to monitor the HVAC system, in case something goes wrong.

I already knew what it was going to cost me, but I didn’t think it would be that bad. It wasn’t even the actual cost of the HVAC part that I needed, but the cost of the installation. When I first called the HVAC company, I asked for a quote for the air conditioning unit. They gave me a guesstimate because they had to know the exact size for a real estimate. When the HVAC technician arrived, he did the measurements and told me what size AC unit I was needing and he gave me the quote for the AC unit plus the cost for the installation. I was dumbfounded by the cost. It was more than tripled that of the initial quote I had been given just for the air conditioning unit.l They told me that it was costly to have two HVAC technicians come in and do the installation of the air conditioning. I was hoping they had made a mistake in their cost work up, but they hadn’t. My first thought was to go online and see if I couldn’t find out how to do my own installation, but I soon gave up on that idea. I decided to bite the bullet and pay the price. I knew that I would at least get service on the AC unit after it was installed and that made it a decent deal..

I used to have this friend who was a HVAC company owner. He used to come to my house to do all of my servicing and over the years he showed me how to do my own service. Before he retired, he had showed me how to do all of my own repairs and even to do installations for myself. I was able to go to the HVAC company and pick up whatever equipment or parts I needed and there were no questions asked. They won’t allow me to do this anymore. When I went for parts last year, they told me that I needed to go to the HVAC supply house for my parts. I found where the HVAC supply house was and I went there. I told them what I needed and they asked for my HVAC certification number. I told them I didn’t have one and they said I had to talk to the manager. The manager happened to be the owner and we began talking. I told him of my experience and we got talking about how I was an advertising agent before I retired. AFter talking for almost an hour, he asked me if I would like to work up an advertising campaign for his HVAC supply center and I told him I would gladly do it. He offered to give me my parts for free in exchange for the ad campaign. It was quite a bargain for me. I saved a lot of money by doing this barter job and he got a lot of free advertising.

It isn’t easy to be a HVAC specialist. If you are one of those people who needs to call your HVAC company to have service done to your furnace, I want you to be kind to them. They put up with quite a bit from their customers. People call in to have their furnaces cleaned or fixed and they are aggravated. They tend to take it out on their HVAC specialists. Knowing this, I try to be really nice to my customers. Some of the HVAC specialists I know will actually charge the mean customers extra. They make it look like their hourly rates had gone up, but it is just an aggravation charge. I had one customer who was angry because they couldn’t afford the estimate I gave them. I offered to do the work for free, but they would need to pay for the parts that were needed. I knew this was against company policy, but they needed to have heat in their house. They had children and I couldn’t let them go without heating. When my boss back at the HVAC company found out, he almost fired me, but I ended up with just a stern warning to not do it again. I’ve also told a couple customers that they should buy their furnaces or air conditioning units at discount stores. Many HVAC techs will gladly do the installation for free if they don’t have to do the loading and unloading of the equipment from their trucks.

They found out that the HVAC system didn’t work for the same reason my wife’s allergies were acting up. The airflow was completely blocked with mold. The air filters hadn’t been changed and they were also clogged with mold. When I called the HVAC company they told us the mold was so bad that we had to get a new HVAC system. We had to turn off the HvAC system while we waited for our new heating system to arrive. I considered starting up the old fireplace in the house, but I didn’t know when it had last been used. I was really afraid that I would burn down the house, even though I thought it would be cheaper to use than to get a new furnace.
