It gets frustrating when I try to explain something to them, but they immediately tune me out because they aren’t willing to learn something new. My dad typically likes to tell me, “why fix what isn’t broken?” I understand his philosophy, but occasionally there’s a better option available, you just have to try! The last fight I had with my dad was about his heating and A/C system. It started when he told me about his heating and A/C service appointment and how the heating and A/C professional wasn’t able to replace their air filter because of the virus. I thought it was a little weird that he wouldn’t touch the air filter, although I didn’t say anything about it. Instead, I asked my dad if I could help him order a package of air filters online. He abruptly refused and told me that he’d go buy some from the hardware store at the end of the week. I tried explaining to him that I could order the exact air filters he used online and they’d be shipped to his address in 2 business days, and he wouldn’t even entertain the idea. This caused a fight between us, because I couldn’t know how stubborn he was being. I still don’t understand why he wouldn’t let me help him order the air filters online, knowing they’d be here quicker! It would save him time too!

My Grandma just spent a lot of money adding a sunroom off the back of her house; It spans the entire backside and has a large, flat screen television on one wall; There’s a big table for family celebrations and multiple rocking chairs and porch swings. It’s become our number one spot to spend time as a family, especially on game days. Last weekend, my Grandma went out of town, however my husband and I still wanted to watch the football game in her sunroom. Like both of us expected, she agreed to let us come over with a few friends to relax and hang out. But when we got there, her place was ice cold! Before she left on her trip, she turned down her furnace in order to save money. There was no point in keeping her place warm when she wasn’t going to be there. I didn’t wear any socks to her house, and all the heat was escaping through my feet. No matter what I did, I could not get warm. I contemplated turning up Grandma’s furnace, knowing she wouldn’t mind, however I thought it was too intrusive. One of my greatest pet peeves is when people change the control unit settings in someone else’s home, so I wasn’t about to break my own rule! As a last resort, I went into her closet and found some fluffy, cozy socks to borrow. Once I put them on, I began to warm up internally again. I couldn’t bring myself to turn up Grandma’s furnace, but I had absolutely no problem borrowing a pair of her socks.

Last weekend, my Aunt Carol went out of town, and my hubby and I still wanted to watch the game on her porch. Like we expected, she agreed to let us come over with a few friends to relax and hang out. When we got there, her place was freezing. Before she left on her trip, Aunt Carol had turned off her furnace in order to save some money. There was no point in keeping her home heated when she wasn’t going to be there.
