Menopause is the worst thing in the entire world.
I am not a woman going through it, I am married to one with it.
My wife gets over a dozen hot flashes at night. She flings off the covers and is coated in sweat. She then amps up the cooling setting on the thermostat and just lays there in the AC. Our bedroom feels like the winter tundra most of the night. She then cools down, puts the covers back on and turns the AC off. Not only does this process wake me up, it is bad for the HVAC and I feel horrible for my wife. What really can we do? We already went the extra mile and got a ductless mini split for the bedroom. Before when my wife would alter the thermostat, the entire house would get air conditioning. The kids bitterly complained of being cold and the energy bills were skyhigh with the constant temperature changes. The ductless heater and AC purchase was a good one. We blocked off the air vent to your room and just mounted the device and thermostat on our wall. So the AC only affects my wife and myself. I hate freezing all night and I hate seeing her so unhappy. Is there something more we could be doing? Can we get AC for just half the room or can my wife eat something that helps hot flashes? At this point I am thinking of moving into the living room on the couch. At least she can be in peace when she thrashes around.
