The church service was uplifting

The main reason that rooftop air conditioning systems are more expensive to install is that they have to be hauled up to the roof, requiring several certified HVAC technicians

Our church building is actually a converted manufacturing building with a flat roof. Originally, only the company’s offices were air conditioned. So when we purchased the building, one of the first things that needed to be done was install central air conditioning. A committee researched the options by contacting local HVAC contractors. There was the conventional type of central air conditioning, in which an exterior component is connected to a forced air furnace. The furnace would hold an evaporative heat exchanger and fan, while the outside unit would house the compressor, compressor fan and a second heat exchanger. Comparatively, rooftop air conditioners contain the entire system on the roof. Aside from bypassing the furnace, rooftop air conditioners limit the amount of work that the unit needs to do, lowering energy cost. Also, since a rooftop air conditioner is contained in one unit, any future problems would be easy to address by an HVAC technician. Rooftop air conditioners are popular with commercial buildings, as they are more efficient in cooling large spaces. Our sanctuary holds four hundred people, so this factor is important. Once the information had been gathered, we looked at the cost of installing either of the two systems. The traditional air conditioning option wasn’t as costly to install, but the long-term costs would add up to be more than the rooftop air conditioner. The main reason that rooftop air conditioning systems are more expensive to install is that they have to be hauled up to the roof, requiring several certified HVAC technicians. The additional technicians would be needed for an entire day in order to complete the initial set-up. We did end up going with option two, and over the years we have enjoyed reliable, cooled air during our church services.
