Our dad was in the air force growing up.
- Our folks didn’t like to spend a lot of money on heating and cooling, so on the rare time the furnace kicked on in the north where we lived, we were happy! When we found out that our dad was being moved and stationed in the sunny South, our family was beyond excited.
My entire family and I talked happily for the whole car trip down there, dreaming of how much fun every single one of us were going to have in the sunshine, however it was still wintertime when we all had made the move and all of us were looking forward to escaping the frigid cold and freezing weather and the barely-used gas furnace. Our first few months in our new home we moved into down South were perfect, and the Winter weather was charming and the house was the perfect temperature with no oil furnace or gas furnace going at all, by the time the sizzling summer time rolled around, though, every single last one of us found out that our parents were as frugal about running the air conditioning system as they had been about running the gas furnace up north. The temperature control thermostat on the wall was kept at 86 degrees and the air conditioning system just didn’t keep the house cool at all. My siblings and myself spent most of our summers at the pool since every single last one of us barely had the comfort of air conditioner in our house, however now that I’m an adult, I happily pay the extra cash all together to run the air conditioning cool all summer time and keep the oil furnace going full blast all winter long!
