From my earliest memory, I remember the whole family going away every week.

We would all climb into the family car to head out to a cottage in the country. The cottage has been in my dad’s family for at least three generations. It is shared between my dad, his siblings and cousins. However, my dad was the one to take care of the property. He handed that responsibility down to me. Recently, I had to deal with an HVAC issue. There were several people in the family who wanted to change the way we heated and cooled the cottage. Originally, the cottage was equipped with a wood-burning stove and that was it. When I was a child, my dad decided to link the cottage to electricity. He didn’t realize how big of an improvement it would make. We replaced the wood burning stove with a more efficient electric heater. It did an amazing job of heating the cottage. However, we still had nothing but a ceiling fan and a few box fans to cool off during the summer time time. At least we had a nice, cool lake a hundred feet away. Recently, my brothers, sisters and cousins have been pushing for a more conventional Heating and A/C system. They are hoping to install a central air conditioning system. This seems to be a bit unnecessary to me. We have compromised by installing a mini-split Heat pump. This is a ductless heating and cooling unit. It provides year round comfort without going to all the trouble and expense of installing a larger HVAC system.

I have to tell you all that I had a very wonderful Christmas! It also came with a very big surprise of a gift for me and my family! I have a rich brother that comes up to visit every year for a week, and this year his Christmas gift to the family was really amazing! When he arrived he did not have any gift for us…which we thought was odd.

We knew something was up and he just kept smiling and saying we’d find out on Christmas morning.

Well, Christmas morning came and he gave us an envelope. Inside that envelope was a voucher for the local heating and air conditioning company that we could call anytime we were ready to get a zoned heating and air conditioning system installed into our home! My brother actually bought the family a zoned heating and air conditioning system! We had been really wanting HVAC zone control for ages. It was just way out of our price range to be able to afford the installation and the heating and air conditioning unit itself! This was possibly the best gift we all had ever got from my rich brother during the grand old holiday season of Christmas. A zoned heating and air conditioning system will be able to make it so we can now have all sorts of different temperatures in every single room in the house! No more family arguments over the thermostat on the wall either! Every room will now have its own thermostat! If someone wants heating in one room they can have heating. It’ll be great!

Back when I was a kid I was forced to see a counselor by the school. I had been a pretty bad kid always getting in trouble. And in order to not get kicked out of school, they required that my parents took me to a counselor. I really didn’t even need to see one and my parents even agreed with that. But in order to keep me in school they had to do it. It wasn’t too bad of a time going to this counselor as they were a pretty cool person. But at one point I actually looked forward to going because the office building they were in had the most perfect central heating and air conditioning system! Actually, it was a commercial heating and air conditioning system! The heating in the winter in the office building was better than any kind of heating I had ever been in before. Also I have to mention that the central air conditioning system that was running through that commercial heating and air conditioning system was even better than the central heating! I used to really enjoy going there in the hotter months of the year! I actually used to tell the counselor how great I thought the heating and air conditioning was. The counselor also agreed with me. We used to talk about life in general and why i did the things that I did in school. I was released from having to go to the counselor after about a year. Though I have to say that I really wished I coulda kept going just for the heating and air conditioning.

I have finally decided that before next winter hits, I’m going to move south.

• I am so sick and tired of the cold weather and the frigid temperatures around here that I’m ready to make a big move even though it will be a pain to get it all done.

The last straw for me was when I found out that I’m going to have to replace the HVAC system in my house. I’ve been having the worst time with my furnace system lately. It seems like every other week, I have been having to call the local HVAC company to come out and do maintenance work and service work on my oil furnace. It’s so annoying to have to keep on paying for getting my furnace worked on when I know that it’s just going to keep on tearing up a week later. I don’t know what the problem is, but the last HVAC technician that came out said that there was no point in continuing to fix my existing oil furnace. He said that I might as well just go ahead and buy a different king of furnace or a high efficiency heat pump or something like that. That just made me start thinking that I’m sick and tired of spending money on furnaces and furnace repairs! It’s like pouring money down into a hole filled with quicksand. Now I’m planning on moving south and taking advantage of the warm temperatures and the lack of hot weather. I’m looking forward to spending my money on cooling my new house instead of trying to heat it all the time.

My husband is a bargain hunter and a bargain shopper. He tries to save money every chance that he gets, which is a good thing. I like the way that he tries to save us money most of the time, but sometimes it gets on my nerves. One of the things that he tries to save money on the most is our heating and cooling bills. I understand that he wants to save money, but I really don’t think that it should be at the detriment of our HVAC system. He likes to wait until the last minute to get anything worked on if the furnace or the air conditioning starts to tear up. I don’t like waiting until the last minute to get our HVAC system worked on, personally. I am the kind of person who likes to have insurance on most things. Our HVAC system doesn’t have any warranty on it, and we also don’t have a maintenance plan set up with our local heating and cooling company, either. I always thought that having a quarterly HVAC maintenance program would make a lot of sense to take care of our furnace and A/C unit, but my husband doesn’t seem to want to spend the money on a regular basis. It seems like he would rather wait until we have a very expensive repair to do on the HVAC system before he spends any money on it. I think that it would be cheaper in the long run to pay for the maintenance plan, but of course my husband doesn’t have the same line of thinking!
