I didn’t want to turn on my grandmother’s heater.

My Grandma just spent a fortune adding a screened in porch off the back of her house.

It spans the entire backside and has a large, flat screen TV on one end.

There’s a sizable table for family parties and various rocking chairs and porch swings. It’s become our number one spot to spend time as a family, especially on game days; Last weekend, my Grandma went out of town, but my husband and I still wanted to watch the game on my Grandma’s porch. Like the two of us expected, she agreed to let us come over with a few friends to relax and hang out, but when we got there, her house was pretty cold. Before she left on her trip, she had turned off her heater in order to save a little money. There was no point in keeping her house heated when she wasn’t going to be there. I didn’t wear any socks to her house, and all my body heat was escaping through my feet; No matter what I did, I could not get warm. I contemplated turning on her heater, knowing she wouldn’t mind, but I thought it was too intrusive. And one of my major pet peeves is when people change the temperature settings in someone else’s home, so I wasn’t about to ignore my own rule. As a last resort, I went into her closet and found some fluffy, cozy slippers to borrow. Once I put them on, I began to warm up again. I couldn’t bring myself to turn on her heater, but I had no problem at all borrowing a pair of her slippers.
