Three nights in a row our son woke me up because he thought there was something in the wall.
We have had mice in the house before, so I wasn’t really surprised that he may be hearing noises in the wall. Mice are common in the winter when you live on a farm. I didn’t worry about the noise until I realized that he was hearing it every time the furnace kicked on. My husband checked the noise out and he said it didn’t sound like the typical sound of the ductwork rattling. Other than ripping out the wall, we had no way of checking it out. Our eldest son is an HVAC technician and he was coming to the house for dinner, so we decided to ask his opinion. He went right back to harass his little brother as soon as he got home. He was able to hear the noise for himself. He came out and asked when was the last time we had the ductwork cleaned. He said he heard a whistling come from the ductwork and it could be because there is a small hole. He said it sounded like the wind was whistling in the air. He called a good buddy of his who worked with the ductwork cleaning and repair team. He made arrangements for them to come over the weekend and do a good cleaning and sanitizing of the ductwork and then they were going to seal it. He told me he offered them a homemade chicken and waffles dinner for the ductwork cleaning they were going to do.
