Trying to go a month without ac

My husband and I have been trying to save money for the past few months.

We both want to save up to get a new house and we want to have a good amount of money saved for the down payment.

I really don’t love budgeting and saving money, but I know in the long run it will really help us to have the money put away for a new house. One thing that my husband and I decided to do was go a month without the HVAC system. We turned off the HVAC system and didn’t turn it back on for a full month. I know that might sound a little bit crazy, but I think it has been good for us to really save money this way. Also, it is the spring and the weather is always mild during April in the town that we live in. I love that we were able to turn off the HVAC system for the month and not really feel like we were suffering because the weather was so nice outside. I think that we might actually do this every year and turn our HVAC system off during April so that we can save money and give our HVAC unit a break. I never thought that we would be the kind of family that turns their HVAC system off for a month, but it has been really nice and I am looking forward to doing it again next year.

Moving down south and learning about ac

Before moving down south I had only seen the south on TV and heard about it on the radio.

I knew there were some beaches, there was always beautiful sunshine and the party never ended.

Like it does with most everything, the TV didn’t tell the whole truth! Yes there are many beaches, but the closest one is two hours from where I live. The sunshine may look great on TV, but some days are so darn hot and I really regret ever moving down here. Last month the humidity was over 100 percent, I didn’t know that was possible. I moved from a place where most homes didn’t even have air conditioners to a town where they are a necessity for life. It took me some time to actually figure out how to use the air conditioning in my new house. For example, since the air conditioner basically runs all day and all night through the summer you have to check the air filter every few days. The air filters can quickly get clogged up with dust and debris, and if you don’t clean them or change them regularly. It can also make your house a lot hotter. Another thing I learned is that the air conditioning will only get things so cool, and after a certain point it just can’t cool the house down any more. Maybe it’s just my house or my air conditioner, but if it is over one hundred degrees outside I can’t get my home any cooler than about eighty degrees.

Contemplating moving to a cooler climate

This hot weather seems to be so oppressive lately.

The afternoons have not dipped below 90° for a couple weeks now, and the humidity is almost always close to 100% I work outside, so I get the brunt of it in the afternoon.

I wear sunblock and drink plenty of ice cold water, but I’m just tired of sweating bullets all the time. That’s all I ever do all day! I do love the people of this town, and the fact that all my family is here for the most part, but I’m really thinking about moving to a much milder climate. I would also not have to use my air conditioner so much. I swear it is running for ten months out of the year some years! Not to mention the fact that the one that I have now is pretty much on its way out. It has given me fifteen faithful years, but not without careful, regular, preventative maintenance. It would not have made it this long otherwise, especially in this oppressive heat and humidity. However, I am having to maintenance it more and more, and soon it will cost more to maintain it than it would to buy an entirely new one. Moreover, if I am considering leaving town for a cooler climate, would I really want to invest in a brand new air conditioner unit right before I left? Maybe this coming winter will be particularly cool, and I will become complacent again. The fact remains that my air conditioner unit probably won’t be able to make it another summer. I have to make a decision, and soon!

The early bird is guaranteed a comfortable summer when it comes to HVAC maintenance

At the beginning of this year, winter just wouldn’t quit.

  • Old man winter reached his cold icy hands across almost the entirety of the spring in some places where the weather would normally be at least somewhat warm and mild, normally.

In some places high in the mountains, it was still snowing in June, believe it or not! Because of this, I’m sure more than ever, the last thing people were thinking about was air conditioning for the summertime! However, despite how freakishly long winter was in the beginning of the year, it’s still a good idea to be proactive about air conditioning maintenance for the summer. I would personally suggest getting your A/C maintenance completed in May in some of the colder parts of the United States, while in the more hot and humid areas, I would suggest getting it done as early as March! Get the air filters changed out for fresh ones, unclog the drains, make sure vents and intakes are not being blocked, make sure the outdoor condenser unit is cleaned and free of obstructions, and so on and so forth. Anything you can take care of on your own you write check company will be more than happy to help you with. Not to mention the fact that they will be far less busy with air conditioning maintenance in the spring as opposed to the summer. You are sure to get an appointment quite quickly, instead of having to wait several days or even weeks if you did it in the middle of the summer, when HVAC companies are at their absolute busiest!

Running a successful HVAC business has always been my ultimate dream

I personally think that being successful is achieving what you dream about.

Ever since I was young, I dreamed about working with sophisticated technology and helping people out.

The perfect career for me I soon learned was the HVAC industry. This is what I put all my focus into and I knew at an early age what I wanted to do with my life. Eventually I was able to earn my HVAC certification and I went out there on the field and proved myself. I became one of the best HVAC technicians in the company I worked for, and eventually I was able to take over the company. The owner of the company back then didn’t have any children, but he was always impressed with me. He loved my work ethic and he always said that I had brilliant ideas. I always thought of him sort of like a father figure, and he was always good to me. I was really happy when I was able to take over the company and I promised him that I would never let him down. Today, we run a very successful operation and we are in the process of expanding the company. We are well known in the local community, but I want us to be well known in the whole region. Eventually the old owner passed away. It was sad being there at the funeral, but I know he will be smiling down seeing that I am taking care of things for him. This has always been my dream to be doing this type of work, so I know that I have achieved success in my life.

I always keep things cool for the most part

I think it’s always important to keep a positive attitude no matter what the situation happens to be.

When I go out to places with my wife, she often complains about the air quality or the temperature control settings.

I always tell her to calm down and relax and I simply talk to the staff members and they usually take care of the temperature control situation. There was a time when they weren’t able to take care of the temperature control though because the HVAC system was on the fritz. I still kept my cool when my wife was about to freak about, but I said we could just get our food to go and we could eat back at home with the ideal temperature control settings. She does appreciate how I stay on top of everything and I can be relatively charming at times. She comes from a rich family, so it was difficult to win over her parents, but they really do love me a lot these days. I managed to get into a very successful career as an engineer, and they actually have a lot of respect for me. There actually was a time when I was considering going to a trade school for an HVAC certification. I changed my mind about that back then though when I first met my wife. I knew that I had to have her in my life and I wanted to do whatever I could to impress her and her wonderful family. So I decided to go for a very challenging career that pays the big bucks.

Backyard Swimming Pools are a Good Way to Use Less A/C and Save Money

If you don’t have a swimming pool in your backyard, you are missing out on a golden opportunity to use less a/c and save money.

  • My brother is lucky enough to have a pool, and they use it quite frequently.

Even though he has a pretty big house, their utility bills are not all that high. I am convinced it is due in part to the swimming pool. When you go and swim in the pool, you naturally feel cooler and don’t have to set the thermostat as low as you would otherwise. In addition to using less a/c because the3y are cooled off from the pool, my brother and his wife also make use of modern HVAC technology. They bought a house that has HVAC with zone control. That means that the house is divvied up into zones, and if no one is using a certain zone, the a/c does not cool that space as much. You can have multiple thermostat settings for different locations throughout the house. For example, my brother has two stories, but no one really uses the upstairs unless there are guests staying. Therefore, the thermostat setting for the upstairs is several degrees higher than it is downstairs, where they do all their living. Not only that, they also have sensors in their house that can control the HVAC. The sensors detect movement, and if there is no movement detected, the HVAC can adjust the thermostat setting in order to reduce energy usage. Of course, my sister in law jokes that she always gets hot when she sits down to read a good book!

Close Your Fireplace Flue to Keep Cool Air Inside

I recently read an article that was exposing ways to use less air conditioning during the summer months.

  • There is never any shortage of information about the subject because just about every southerner wants to use less a/c in order to save some money on utility costs.

The thing is, there is very little new information in those articles. We all know to use ceiling fans because they make you feel cooler and you can set your thermostat a bit higher. We all know to take cool showers and keep our hair wet whenever possible because the a/c will feel downright cold if you do that. We all know that your a/c will work less if you have a shaded house. This is all the more of the same. However, the other day, I read something I had never read before. In this article, they said to close your fireplace flue in order to keep the air conditioned air inside the house. Well, I have a fireplace I have never used. I have no idea whether or not the flue is open or closed. How can you tell? Do you know? I simply do not know, but the article said that if your flue is open, your chimney acts like a vacuum and sucks all your air conditioning right out through the fireplace! Well, I don’t like the sound of that. In fact, I do not even know why on earth we have fireplaces here in the south. I mean, if I were to use the fireplace, I would have to make the a/c even colder just to survive!
