I lived in a house once that had an attic full of spiders, and they weren’t the harmless ones either.

There were actually a lot of brown recluse spiders up there and I would always get scared I would get bit if I went up for any reason. Because of my fear of spiders, I have largely avoided going inside of attics. This also prevents me from using my attic as a storage place as well. If I don’t want to go up into the attic at all to get a box down, it’s not necessarily a good place to keep storage boxes and other items. And my last house, I never had to go in the attic for any reason. In my current house on the other hand, the air handler for the HVAC system is located in the attic. Unfortunately as well, the filter tray for the air handler is also only accessible through the Attic. So that means every time I want to replace my air conditioner filter, I have to climb into the attic and brave my fear of spiders. I don’t know if we have poisonous spiders in our attic, but I still worry about it from time to time. It just really is unfortunate I have to go up there every time to replace the air conditioner filter. I really wish it was easier to replace the air conditioner filter. I wish the filter tray for the air handler was accessible from the ceiling instead of inside the attic.

I never realized that animals could have just as many health problems as human beings.

I guess I always figured that because of our weekend immune systems, we were just more susceptible to problems with our bodies.

But having cats and dogs over the years has determined that things are pretty consistent across multiple species. One of my dogs when I was younger had kidney problems. I needed to take him in for dialysis for a while until we finally put him down because he wasn’t getting better and it was causing him a lot of pain and suffering. It got me learning about how important it is for animals to have their health problems addressed as well as now I have a dog that has a ton of health problems. The current problem that we’re trying to address is all of his allergies. We didn’t really know what to do for the dog’s allergies other than giving him allergy medicine. But the other thing that really helped him was the air purifier that we put in the room where he sleeps. It gets rid of dust and other airborne allergens. With the air purifier running, I don’t have to worry about my dog having severe allergy problems. It was the solution to get him well again. If I had known years ago that he just needed an air purifier near his bed to be well again, I would have purchased an air purifier a long time ago. I want my dog to be healthy and not suffer unnecessarily. I’m happy that he has his purifier now but it would have been nice to have had it years ago.

I used to be a lot less responsible than I am now.

It was really hard trying to settle down at one point and give up all of my partying and insanity. I like to go out to clubs with my friends and get crazy at that time in my life. I wasn’t thinking about my future and the responsibilities that I would one day have. I was focused on myself and my own existence only. But as time went on, I had to learn responsibilities for my own sake. I had to get better about doing everything that I need to for myself and my home especially. Because I’m not a renter anymore, I’m actually a homeowner. I have a house that requires lots of maintenance. One of those aspects of maintenance is simply calling the heating and cooling company to service the heating and cooling system. If I don’t keep my HVAC system chained, it doesn’t last for years to come. And that’s what I’m focused on more than anything else, making sure that my HVAC system lasts as long as it needs to. Keeping up to date with HVAC maintenance could be the difference between having an air conditioner that lasts for 15 years and an air conditioner that only lasts for 5 years. And if it only lasts 11 years, you’re not going to get it replaced when it eventually breaks down. I try to get my heating and cooling system maintained twice a year so that my air conditioner and furnace are lasting for a very long time. This is important to me in the long run.

It’s finally the beginning of October again.

The leaves are finally changing on all of the trees to the point that they’re about to fall in the ground.

Pretty soon we’re not going to have leaves in the trees at all and everything is going to look dead and dwindling. It’s definitely not my favorite time of the year for that reason alone. All those leaves fall from the trees and hit the ground but that’s not the end of it. A lot of the leaves decay and cause mold that goes into the air during the autumn. It makes everything and everyone get exposed to fungal spores outside during the autumn season. I end up getting bronchitis or something similar during this time of the year on a yearly basis. But after the Autumn season is over and all of the decayed leaves have been covered by snow or ice, then I’m stuck having to use my heating system. Since it sits off for most of the year, it always smells weird when I turn it on for the first time in a while. Dust you know they’re microbial content will settle on the heat exchanger and then it needs to be burned off when the heater is turned on again. It takes several hours of running the heater non-stop for the smell to go away. Sometimes it’ll even take an entire day to get rid of the smell on the furnace. It happens with every kind of furnace I’ve ever used. It’s just a factor of having an off for a while then turning on again. You can’t really avoid the odor of the air on the heating system.

I love getting discounts from companies regardless of whether or not it’s a store or a contractor.

• When I needed to get new roofing tiles, I skipped the hardware store and went straight to a building supply company.

Often you can simply get better deals especially if you’re buying products in bulk. That’s how I was able to build my back porch deck last year for about 40% less than I would have paid if I had just gone to the local hardware store for the same exact supplies. It helps though that I have a friend who hooked me up with the manager at the building supply company and introduced me a few years ago. I am very fortunate for that. I’ve also been lucky to get a hookup at the heating and cooling company as well. My friend knows the owner of that company as well. And I pay a lot less going there for all of my heating and cooling needs. I get discounts on things as simple as air conditioner and furnace filters, but I also get discounts on repairs and maintenance visits. I feel really fortunate about that fact. Whenever I need to get a repair done on my heating and cooling system, I call this HVAC supplier and they send out a technician right away. I give them really good reviews on social media as well. I think they deserve to get good reviews when they give good service at good prices. I have to admit though, I don’t know if I would get the same sort of deals if I didn’t know somebody that was friends with the manager.

When I lived out in the rural country it was hard because of all the driving to any business that I needed to visit.

Even the gas station was at least 10 miles away at the time.

So I would have to plan ahead and make sure I didn’t run out of gas before I got too far away from the gas station or even before I got home. This was a common concern for me because I would come home from hanging out with friends some nights and I would be really out of it and forget that I would need to get gasoline before coming back to my house. Because by the time I would get to my house, my gas tank would be so low there would be a risk of not getting to the gas station before running out completely. That’s one thing I didn’t like about living out in the rural countryside. All of the big box stores were really far away too. I remember trying to do Christmas shopping for my family back then and I would have to turn it into an all-day affair going down to a shopping mall and an adjacent city. It was a lot of work for me back then to get all of this done. And now I’m happy I don’t live out in the countryside anymore. Instead, I live a lot closer to a lot of businesses in stores. And I think that I enjoy also having things like heating and cooling suppliers really close to my house. For instance, my HVAC supplier is right down the street from me. And they are extremely prompt with getting back to me when I need them for my house. Sometimes I have issues with my furnace or air conditioner and need help right away.
