When you end up being woken up unexpectedly in the middle of the night, it takes some time to get your bearings.
Since I run my own business, I try to stay available for various emergencies.
My supplier has a dedicated line for emergency work, 24 hours a day, and when no one else can do it, I keep the iphone with me, as it is pressing to have a real live person answer the emergency line, any time day or night. That is what our customers deserve, not an answering machine! One night it was close to 5am when I got an emergency call for a broken air conditioner that happened to be on a bus. I said that it didn’t sound like an emergency to me, and could wait until the HVAC equipment store opened in the day, however then the dude offered me a good amount of money just to make the service call and look at the AC equipment. This would be on top of whatever the service costs actually were. It turns out the guy was the manager for a rock band, and when the air conditioner equipment on the tour bus broke they went entirely nuts. I came to find out that they broke it totally themselves, because they were miserable because it wasn’t cooling the bus down to the desired temperature control settings. I guess all the booze and drugs had them feeling overheated, because they ripped the temperature control out of the wall entirely. Thankfully this was a relatively easy fix, basically I just needed to upgrade the temperature control, and then check the refrigerant levels in the system.
