I am grateful that I have a relatively valuable set of skills that doesn’t tie me to a single job. Inside the HVAC industry there are genuinely dozens if not hundreds of weird jobs in addition to specialties. Before COVID came around, I was a glad go lucky HVAC tech, you know the kind that makes their way around in the van filling up refrigerant in addition to charging you eighty bucks for an air filter? That was me pretty much. Then the repair calls got shut down for a while, in addition to our boss, the HVAC corporation, started making layoffs. Six weeks later, he called back offering me my outdated job at the same rate of pay, in addition to I told him how me in addition to a few of the other laid off HVAC equipment workers were forming our own supplier. Of course, he laughed at us, however he wouldn’t be laughing long because he found himself shorthanded separate from enough certified HVAC techs. All his best men had started their own HVAC repair supplier, in addition to now he desperately needs nice workers.
