There was a persistent hissing sound from the HVAC unit

Arnold had the perfect weekend planned for his partner, who was flying in.

She lived in a different part of the country, and they hadn’t been together in some time.

But, the distance wasn’t so bad for them since they were always talking. Arnold went ahead to get new bedsheets, towels, scented candles, flowers, snacks, and other items he knew she would love. He drove home quite happy since he would spend the day cleaning his house. The house was cool when Arnold got home since the HVAC unit was on. But, he heard a distinct hissing sound he’d never heard before coming from the indoor unit. Arnold placed all the things he was carrying on the kitchen counter and got his phone. He wanted to call a friend who was an AC mechanic to inform him about the hissing noise. The AC mechanic answered the call on the second ring and listened to Arnold explain the issue. Immediately he asked Arnold to turn off the HVAC unit since that sounded like a refrigerant leak. Refrigerants can be quite toxic, and it was best for Arnold to open the windows and doors to let in the fresh air. The AC mechanic had another appointment but treated this as an emergency and rushed to Arnold’s house to fix the faulty HVAC unit. Further inspection of the HVAC unit revealed cracks on the refrigerant lines causing the refrigerant to leak out. Arnold was lucky to have heard the hissing noise and turned off the HVAC unit. The AC mechanic had to mend the cracks then tested the HVAC unit to ensure no more leaks.
