When it comes to bees of any kind, my friend Melanie is completely terrified of them.
- She has hated bees ever since we were kids, and it hasn’t gotten any better as we’ve gotten older, either.
I remember her running like a crazy person away from her car once because she had tried to drive away and then she suddenly saw a wasp in her rearview mirror in the back of the car. She took off running and refused to get back in the car until I killed the bee and showed her its dead body in a paper towel. I don’t like bees either, but I’m not exactly terrified of them the way that she is! If there is ever a yellow jacket, a wasp, a bee, a hornet, or even a big fly in her personal space, she will run and hide. It’s kind of funny, if you ask me. I would never tell her that, though, because I know that she is honestly petrified of them. She had to call a local bee extermination team last year because she found a couple of yellow jackets near the window in her house. She freaked out and she was convinced that she was under siege by thousands of bees. When the bee exterminators got to her house, they were only able to find a few bees on premises, and so they couldn’t really charge her the full fee for doing a mass extermination on her property. She told them that she would pay the full price anyway, just to be on the safe side. I don’t even know what to tell her. Melanie needs to wear a bee proof suit when she goes outside in the spring and summer, I guess.
