Stealing dog food and putting it into the air vents

Last week as I stood in the living room, I thought I saw a shadow go across my foot.

We have a skylight in the living room.

I’m always seeing shadows from the sunshine shining through the trees. I continued with my breakfast preparations, but after that I saw another shadow! I watched a small shadow fly across the floor where my air vent began. I took my prep work over to the table as well as sat down so I could watch the floor. It took about five minutes, but then a small grey creature ran from the air vent to the dog food dish. It grabbed a piece of dog food in its mouth and snuck back into the air vent. I yelled for my hubby. Then I stood there and pointed to the air vent! My hubby started over toward the air vent, just in time to have numerous mice come out of it and go to the dog dish! The mice were stealing food as well as hiding the pieces in the air ducts. My hubby picked up the phone to call our exterminator, and he also called the HVAC corporation. I felt disappointed that he called the exterminator. That’s only because I was thinking they may have some babies in there, and so I just felt guilty, but I didn’t want to have hundreds of mice in my air ducts either. But the exterminator showed up the same afternoon that we called. I guess we called before they had time to build their nests, however he found about more than a dozen of them. The HVAC company found small holes that were going out to the outside. After repairing the holes for us, they guaranteed we would not have any more problems with mice.
